Youngest Mother At The Age Of 5

All around us, mysteries are shrouded in stories that are almost forgotten, except for some that are documented and preserved well enough. Like the age long story of Edward Mordrake– the man with two faces, another story is that of Lina Medina who gave birth at the age of 5. She was born on September 27 1933 in Ticrapo, Peru to Tiburelo Medina and Victoria Losea.

What happened?

Medina was brought to the hospital by her parents at the age of 5 due to what her parent thought was an abnormal abdominal growth. At first doctors thought it was a tumor growth but after series of medical examinations, it was confirmed that she was already 7 months pregnant. “How could this be?”, seems to be the statement on the lips of everyone who heard the news. This discovery baffled medical doctors as they performed several other series of tests on her- it was indeed medically confirmed that Lima Medina was actually pregnant, at the age of 5! That was quite worrisome and like wild fire, the news spread all over Peru.

When she gave birth

About 2 months after the discovery of her original diagnosis, Lima Medina gave birth to a baby boy at the age of 5 years, and seven month through Cesarean section on May 14, 1939. This was necessitated by her small pelvis as doctors battled through the process of making sure everything was in order in saving this child’s life, and she did lived. Doctors were amazed to find out that she had fully matured sex organs. Her child was named Gerardo after her doctor.

But who Impregnated Lima Medina?

Till this day, the identity of the father was never known. Upon the discovery of Lima’s pregnancy though, her father was arrested on the suspicion of child sexual abuse, but was later released due to lack of substantial evidence against him. Like a father would a daughter, he loved Lima with a passion. Medina’s son Gerardo grew healthy like every other child and died at the age of 40. Till this day, Lima Medina never told anyone who the father of her baby was. Gerardo grew up, and died not knowing his father.

Medina made medical history as the youngest mother the world has ever seen. 82 years after, the story still rattles the minds of medical intellects and individuals alike. The question many are asking is not ‘who impregnated her?’, but ‘how could a child of 5 years old conceive?’ The answers are unknown! It’s one of the bizarre of puzzles of nature that we probably cannot solve.
