Lakshmi Tatma: Child With Eight Limbs

The story of this young girl from India started from the womb. Borne by her mother just like every other child, reached 9 months gestation like most, but born different from all. Had things gone normal during her gestation period, she would have been delivered as a set of twins. But for nature, her story would be a subject of medical and scientific investigation- for while she was a fetus, things went wrong.... really wrong!

Her name is Lakshmi Tatma. She was born with a unique and body- with eight limbs and two torsos fused at the hips. She was named after Lakshmi, the multi-limbed Hindu goddess of wealth. For two years she carried her twin with her making it difficult to walk and do everything the normal way. Her lifeless partner- the parasitic twin hindered her everyday-to-day life activity. She could not crawl normally or walk, but she could manage to drag herself around somehow. As she grew, her twin grew with her. It attracted the attention of the villagers as they have now come to refer to her as the Hindu god reincarnate and was worshiped by them. Her unique body attracted medical investigation and media attention from all over the world. Her sight was mind boggling to the very few doctors and nurses who witnessed her delivery, and weird to blogger like us.

Cockroaches Can Live For Weeks Without Their Heads

For their tenacity, cockroaches are well known and are often cited as the most likely survivors of catastrophes. In a bid to understand why cockroaches and many other insects can survive decapitation for some time, it also helps to understand why humans cannot. First off, decapitation in humans results in blood loss and a drop in blood pressure which hampers transport of oxygen and nutrition to vital tissues. The result is that you'll bleed to death.

Humans breathe through their mouth or nose and only the brain controls that critical function, so breathing would stop. Moreover, the human body cannot eat without the head, ensuring a swift death from starvation should it survive the other ill effects of head loss. Cockroaches do not have blood pressure the way humans do. They do not have a huge network of blood vessels like those of humans, or tiny capillaries that you need a lot of pressure to flow blood through. They have an open circulatory system, which there's much less pressure in.

Edward Mordrake: The Man With Two Faces

Edward Mordake (or Edward Mordrake) was reportedly the 19th century heir to an English peerage. He supposedly had an extra face on the back of his head, which could neither eat nor speak, although it could laugh and cry. Edward begged doctors to have his "demon head" removed, because, supposedly, it whispered satanist language to him at night, but no doctor would attempt it. He committed suicide "in his 23rd year.

Edward's case was weird, bizarre and yet interesting. It was revered as one of the worst case of deformity- not because he has two heads, but two faces on the opposite side of one head! He was said to have been heir to one of the noblest peerages in England. He never claimed the title, however, and committed suicide in his twenty-third year. He was said to have lived in complete seclusion, refusing the visits even of the members of his own family. How could you? His case was bizarre beyond belief and thought the best way to live his life was stay away from the public, the public from him.
