Danger lurks everywhere- on the streets, at work, even at home. You never know how to avoid them until it all happens. You will forever be happy if you're fortunate to evade them, probably by sheer luck. The story of Peng Shulin is that of willingness to live, determination to survive and motivational in every sense to us all. He saw death and cheated it. He is a police officer who got run over by a truck while on active duty in the Thu Duc district, HCM city in 1995. He was completely decapitated from his waist.

While in his own pool of blood, he moved his hands around his waist trying to feel his legs. He occasionally raised his head to see what was left of himself, probably finding it difficult to believe that he's not dreaming. He was in a mingled mess of chopped flesh and bone as onlookers could do nothing to help him. Poor Peng Shulin laid there until an ambulance finally came. The sight was pitiful and gory!

When doctors received him in the hospital, it was a race against time as they battled to save his life. "With someone cut in half and partially dead, where do you start from"- seems to be the question on each doctor's lips. It took about 20 doctors to stitch him up as skin from his face was grafted. His recovery was not an easy one. Peng lost so much blood and was on special breathing apparatus to keep him alive. But against all odds, he fought back and choose to live again. For Peng Shulin, the journey to recovery can only be imagined.

Bed-ridden for about a decade, everybody doubted he will be able to live a normal life. But just when all hope seems to be lost, something good happened. In order to get him to walk again, doctors at the China Rehabilitation Research Center in Beijing came up with an ingenious idea. An egg-cupped trunk with attached legs was built to mimic the movement of the legs. Peng Shulin started building his upper body to enable him carry the weight of his body. Peng Shulin now walks again.

It was a weird story anyone could tell. And it's also difficult to believe. Even with the aid of the designed egg-cupped trunk, living life could be very difficult. When he eats, how does he excretes, pass urine and do all of those things that are natural. We can only conclude that his story is difficult to believe, impossible to make-up and so weird to the ears! You can also read the story of Qian Hongyan

Today Peng Shulin can have his life back again, thanks to China Rehabilitation Research Center in Beijing and all those who supported him morally and mentally. Maybe another reminder from life on why you should never give up on live.
