If you think your story is pitiful, wait till you read the challenging story, and odds-defying life of Qian Hongyan. It's truly amazing in every word of it. One would have thought that the end has come for this little girl, now turned 'superwoman' when she faced this life threatening disaster. But no! She fought through all odds, got help and excelled!
She was badly injured in an auto crash when she was only 3 years old and lost both her legs. To ensure her survival, the doctors were forced to amputate her legs. She struggled to live a normal life by crawling with two locally made props and part of a basketball. Hongyan uses brushes as low-level crutches “walking” between school and home ALL BY HERSELF! She changes the basked ball under-prop from time-to-time as it wears out, but that doesn't deter her from making sure she's not a burden to her immediate family or the community she belonged to.
Her story is widely reported in the country, and experts from China Rehabilitation Research Center has come to Qian’s home to help her for rehabilitative treatment early 2005. Qian now has a pair of proper prosthetic legs, but still says she likes to use the basketball from time to time as it is easier for her to get in and out of the pool with. She enjoys swimming and joined a club to make sure she's also productive to other less privileged individuals. She's no doubt an inspiration to all that knew her story.
Very emotional indeed was her story, and quite similar to that of Peng Shulin. When life knocks you down, you have to try hard, stand up and fight on.
